Roof samples are here!

We got some ideas for the roof shingles.
I really wont be able to decided without the stucco boards. But so far Nick is learning towards the  Old English Pewter (bottom right light gray)  and I am leaning toward the Thunderstorm gray. (which nick also likes!)

This is the samples from Tamko Heritage collection.

                            Old English Pewter bottom left

My favorite is bottom right thunderstorm gray!

i  and some more samples. I think we are leaning towards the grays over the browns.

RAIN RAIN DONT GO AWAY.........

.......but really bad timing.

They actually had to stop working because of the mud and take the day off. Good news though! Today the hole is finished. The Engineer is coming out to inspect. ( he was suppose to come today, I don't know if he did or not i was painting all day at a neighbors )

Yes great down pour for two days! Here is the start to the mud hole! I never risked getting the camera wet for another pictures. lol

I always wanted a swiming hole in my back yard!

RAIN!

I am not complaining or anything! we hardly ever get rain. But wow it down poured today! (today is day 3 of excavation) They hit shale and need to go two more inches! figures! i think they can get it though. The also found my water line. They had to shut off the water in the house. its just funny i am out of water inside and it is pouring rain outside. I don't think today is going to be very productive. Here are some pictures of yesterday evening (when it was still dry!)

One BIG HOLE!

Today was our first step...   survey and site prep!

Dallin just loved watching the loader scoop up the dirt. It suprised me how nice the dirt was. Very little rock. I kept praying that they would not hit shale. Shale, is common around Penrose area and can be quite troublesome. Even some friend of ours who built several years ago were unable to do a basement when the excavator hit large shale beds in foundation area..

Although we did hit some shale it wasnt very much and it seemed to break easily. (but we are not finished yet so my fingers are still crossed.)

This step is not the official beginning of the build this is just to help us get our permits. The engineer is going to come and take a look at the hole and that's how we get out wet stamp approval for the building department. (So they know what kind of foundation is safe to use in our terrain.) I am still not 100% sure I understand everything but I am learning lots!

good news!

Well,
I guess the plot plan problem was solved. I am so grateful I  went with a contractor instead of trying to deal with is all myself. He found something in the country records that will help us and  he said "not too worry". My three favorite words! Also today some one from the utilities came and spray painted what i think are the gas or water lines. YAY for progress!

Permit Trouble

Wow! why is obtaining a building permit so much paper work!

So FIRST of many stumbling blocks.( I am sure)  The property was sold without a plot plan lay out. I didn't even know what that was. But its like a map of your property with ALL the buildings in location to the street and property lines. (So many feet from so many feet ect.) Well, we don't have one. That takes time and a surveyor has to come and redo one if you don't have one on record. So Rusty (our contractor) told me they usually give you that plot plan at closing. (and we didn't) so I called the title company and found out they didn't require one. So there is most likely not one. I think we can draw one up ourselves we just have to know the dimension of the property.  Like this example below:

Kitchen Inspiration

Well, I cant make any decisions on the exterior until I see the stucco color boards or the roof color charts so I've started to dream about the inside! I have almost everything planned out. LOL (not really) I just see picture I like and save them. But that's progress right?

But since our contractor will be stopping just after dry wall and texture, its up to Nick and I (and hopefully some family and friends ) to get the work done.

this is how I envision my kitchen: (the colors not the shape, the shape of my kitchen is L with the sink in the bar area no island)

I want more of an off white cupboard though and I'll have dark hardware and maybe even some stain in the cracks to antique them.

Our budget doesn't allow for granite or solid surface so I'll just have to make do with laminate/Formica.  We actually are planning on using our existing cupboards and repainting them! That will save us quite a bit! Here is the laminate I have picked out. its called Perlato Granite.

I also want to paint the pantry I have a really pretty gray as an accent piece.
like this color:

or maybe this:

I'll have to wait and see what color of antique white I pick for the cupboards. That's as far as I have gotten for now. I still don't know what the floors will be. I hate tile so I know it wont be that! I am so nervous all the colors wont come together. I am probably going to keep the walls simple for now with a beige just like the very top picture. And I have NO idea what do for a back splash. Do I really need one?

BIG DAY! Drum Roll Please.........................

YES we have officially begin the building project. We signed the contract with our contractor and gave him one big fat check on Monday!

Now we are gathering all the info for the permits so we can get this show on the road!
